Old Tashkent
Old Tashkent is the historic northwestern part of the city, preserving traditional architecture and neighborhoods built in the late 19th century. The area includes medieval monuments such as the Kukeldash Madrasah and parts of the Khast-Imam Complex. Before Russian colonial expansion in 1865, this was the core of Tashkent. The Anhor canal served as an informal boundary between the old and new cities. Today, Old Tashkent reflects the city’s religious and architectural heritage and remains a vibrant cultural zone.
